How the Job Runs
Guard goes onto clean gutters or it does not go on at all. Covering existing sludge just seals it in somewhere nobody can reach it.

Clear the gutters
Full clean out first, downpipes included. There is no point capping a gutter with debris still sitting in it.
Install
Guard cut and fitted along each run at the correct pitch, secured at the roof edge and the gutter lip, with valleys and junctions detailed properly.
Check the flow
Water run over the guard to confirm it enters the gutter rather than skating over the front. Photos through when we are done.
What It Costs
Guard is priced by the lineal metre, with the initial clean out included. What changes the rate:
- Total lineal metres to be covered
- Guard type. Mesh, perforated aluminium and other systems differ in cost and lifespan
- Roof type, since tile, corrugated and sheet metal each need a different fixing detail
- Single or double storey, and general access around the house
- Number of valleys and roof junctions, which take the most time to detail correctly
- How much debris is sitting in the gutters before we start
Worth being straight about this. Gutter guard reduces maintenance, it does not eliminate it. Fine debris still gets through, and the guard itself wants an occasional look over. Anyone telling you a gutter will never need touching again is selling you something.
Is Gutter Guard Worth It
For some houses it is an easy yes. For others the money is better spent on a clean every couple of years. The trees are usually what decide it.
Heavy tree cover
If you are under gums, pines or a mature jacaranda and clearing gutters twice a year, guard pays for itself within a few years and takes the job off your list for good.
Two storey homes
Most of the cost of a gutter clean is the cost of safe access. On a double storey that access cost repeats every single time, which makes guard stack up a lot faster.
Bushfire prone areas
Dry leaf litter sitting in a gutter is a recognised ignition risk from ember attack. If you are in a bushfire prone area, metal guard is worth considering for that reason alone.

Panels change how debris moves down a roof and often concentrate it into particular runs. If you have solar, mention it, because it affects where the load ends up and how we detail the gutters beneath them.
Quality aluminium and steel mesh systems last many years. Cheap plastic mesh goes brittle in the Perth sun and starts breaking up within a few summers, which is why we do not use it.
